Article Retraction & Withdrawal

The Gema Journal of Universitas Islam Batik Surakarta is committed to maintaining the highest level of scientific integrity in the publication of articles. In certain cases where ethical violations or significant errors are discovered after publication, the journal reserves the right to retract or withdraw articles to preserve the quality and credibility of academic publishing. This policy outlines the procedures for article retraction and withdrawal for articles that have been published.

  1. Article Retraction

An article may be retracted if:

  • Serious errors are identified that affect the results or key conclusions of the research.
  • Ethical violations are detected, such as plagiarism (including self-plagiarism), data manipulation, or disregard for proper research procedures.
  • Duplicate publication is identified, where the article or parts of it have been previously published elsewhere without proper permission or citation.
  • Authorship disputes arise that cannot be resolved, which affect the credibility of the article or its authors.
  • Conflict of interest is discovered that was not disclosed during submission, which may influence the research outcomes.

In the case of retraction, the article will be clearly marked as "retracted" on the journal’s webpage, and a retraction statement explaining the reasons will be published. The retracted article will remain in the journal’s archive but will be clearly indicated as withdrawn.

  1. Article Withdrawal

An article may be withdrawn before or after publication under the following circumstances:

  • Author request: The author(s) may request withdrawal of the article if there are justifiable reasons, such as the discovery of errors in methodology or data that need correction before further publication.
  • Pre-publication errors: If significant issues are discovered during the peer review process or before final publication, such as inaccuracies in data analysis or invalid references.
  • Ethical violations: If ethical violations are discovered that were not detected earlier, affecting the credibility of the article or research.

Withdrawn articles will be removed from the publication system, and the article’s status will be updated as "withdrawn." The withdrawal will be communicated to the author(s) and disclosed to the public.

  1. Ethical Responsibility

The editorial board and all individuals involved in the publication process at Gema are responsible for ensuring that the published articles adhere to high scientific and ethical standards. We encourage authors, reviewers, and editors to report any ethical violations or errors in published articles.

  1. Communication with Authors

Authors will be promptly notified if their article is being considered for retraction or withdrawal. Clear and open communication will be maintained throughout the process, and authors will be given an opportunity to respond or provide clarifications regarding the issues at hand.

  1. Final Decision

The final decision on the retraction or withdrawal of an article will be made by the editorial board of the Gema Journal of Universitas Islam Batik Surakarta based on scientific ethical guidelines and the impact on the credibility of the research. The final decision will be announced transparently, and the reasons for retraction or withdrawal will be clearly explained.
