Plagiarism Policy
Jurnal ilmiah Gema Universitas Islam Batik Surakarta is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity. We take plagiarism very seriously, as it undermines the credibility and trustworthiness of scholarly work. To maintain the quality of the journal and to ensure that all published works are original and ethically sound, we implement a strict plagiarism policy.
- Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism refers to the act of using someone else's ideas, research, or written work without proper acknowledgment. This includes:
- Copying and pasting text from other sources without citation.
- Paraphrasing someone else's work without proper citation.
- Reusing parts of a previous publication without permission or proper citation (self-plagiarism).
- Presenting others’ data or findings as your own.
- Turnitin for Plagiarism Detection
To ensure the originality of articles submitted for publication, all manuscripts will be checked for plagiarism using Turnitin plagiarism detection software. Turnitin compares the text of submitted papers with a vast database of academic sources, journals, websites, and previous submissions to identify any instances of similarity.
- Plagiarism Threshold
The journal will accept articles with a similarity index of up to 25%. Articles with a similarity index above this threshold will be sent back to the authors for revision and resubmission. Authors are required to revise the content to reduce similarity by properly citing sources, rewording text, or removing plagiarized sections.
- Consequences of Plagiarism
If an article is found to contain plagiarized content, the following actions may be taken:
- Rejection: The article will be rejected immediately, and the author will be notified of the plagiarism issue.
- Retracted Publication: If plagiarism is identified after the article has been published, the article will be retracted, and a retraction notice will be issued.
- Ethical Responsibility of Authors
It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure that their work is free from plagiarism. Authors must:
- Acknowledge all sources of information, ideas, or research used in their manuscripts.
- Properly cite all references, including direct quotes, paraphrases, and ideas that are not their own.
- Avoid submitting previously published material unless explicitly allowed.
- Authors’ Declaration
By submitting a manuscript to Gema, authors affirm that the work is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is free from plagiarism. Authors must also declare any conflicts of interest and disclose all funding sources that supported the research.
- Handling Plagiarism Issues
In the event that plagiarism is detected, the editorial team of Gema will contact the authors to address the issue. The authors will be given an opportunity to explain or revise the manuscript. If the issue is not resolved satisfactorily, the manuscript will be rejected, and further action may be taken depending on the severity of the plagiarism.
